2007-2008 Church School Offerings
ALL CLASSES FOR CHILDREN HELD ON TODDLERS/PRESCHOOLERS It’s never too early to show Jesus to our children. The Toddler curriculum introduces the basic concept of what Christ has done for his people — always in a way that they can grasp and understand. They will learn that… 1ST - 4TH GRADERS The children will continue to explore what it means to live as disciples of Christ, exploring the question, “What is faithful living?.” In this season they will also remember our ancestors in the faith, those who have been our teachers and mentors, guides on our journey. They will begin to prepare for the coming of the Messiah, the birth of Jesus the Christ, anticipated in Advent and celebrated in Christmas. During the second have of the season after Pentecost, the children will be exploring what it means to be disciples in everyday life, both as individuals and as the church. 5TH - 7TH GRADERS Each quarter this magazine (FaithZine!) gives Tweens material with a link to everyday living through true, fictional, and mission stories, role plays, and discussion starters. 8TH - 12TH GRADERS eMerge is a comprehensive resource for youth ministry programming that combines engaging, media-enhanced large-group teaching and meaningful small-group discussion. ADULT CLASS The Gospel of Luke has been selected for our next Bible study. One of the four gospels celebrating the life and ministry of Jesus, Luke is a rich document to explore. The class will read and reflect upon each of the gospel’s twenty-four chapters. Along the way we will meet “the prodigal son,” and “the good Samaritan,” two of the best known characters in the entire biblical narrative, the two appearing in Luke’s Gospel alone. Both the familiar, and unfamiliar events and episodes in the Savior’s life, will yield new insights as we read and study together. Join us. ADULT CLASS TWO NEW ADULT CLASSES
The Adult Women’s Sunday School class is beginning Thomas Bandy’s Kicking Habits, which is presently an initiative of Lakeview Presbyterian Church. Come join the class to investigate this exciting book which challenges every person at LPC to make the necessary changes to create a thriving church. Penny Sproles, Holly Wilson, and Cheryl Farmer will facilitate the study.
Andy Kates is planning an Adult Sunday School class for this summer to discuss the book The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success by Deepak Chopra, M.D. The book gives insights to personal growth from a different perspective and nicely complements the Christian teachings that we study the rest of the year. For those that have read the book or those who want to, please consider joining us this summer to discuss the ideas as a group. Andy would like to get started in June and use 8 or 9 Sundays to discuss the 7 Laws. Copies of the book can be purchased fairly inexpensively online or at stores. If needed, Andy is willing to track down some copies. Please let Andy know if you are interested in the class. He can be reached by email at ahkates@bellsouth.net or by phone at 861-3181.
